"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

Carl Rogers

I am a BACP registered, humanistic integrative counsellor. I draw from several counselling approaches but overall I am relational and compassion focused. I work with adults and young people (aged 13 years+). I offer a warm and non-judgmental space where together we can explore any difficulties or challenges you may be facing and you can express your thoughts and emotions in a safe environment.

At the initial consultation we can meet and discuss your needs and hopes from counselling. This means that I can tailor my approach to meet your needs, where possible. It can take time to develop the trust and courage needed to share vulnerability. So often we face societal pressures and expectations for change and achievement; in life we may feel pushed too hard, too soon but in counselling we will work at your pace. I will help you to understand and make sense of your experiences and develop your own self-compassionate voice.

I use Mindfulness, grounding and breathing to help develop ways of calming, slowing down and reducing stress. You may be experiencing low mood, anxiety, stress, have suffered a bereavement or significant loss, be struggling with identity and sense of purpose, relationship difficulties or all of the above and more. Whatever your need, I am here to listen without judgment or expectation, to help you find your own way forward.

Just a funny little bit of information about me... I love dragonflies! For me, they symbolise transition and transformation... which can be quite challenging but with support and courage, can lead to personal growth and we can emerge with more resilience, wisdom and self-compassion.

I have worked for a number of local organisations and charities as a Counsellor and Supervisor, including: the Southmead Project, Cruse Bereavement, Off the Record and Help Counselling.

For several years, I worked as a specialist Trauma and Abuse Counsellor at the Southmead Project, providing trauma informed counselling to adult survivors of historic trauma and abuse.

I have extensive experience in working with children and young people and have been working in education for over 20 years in various capacities including: school counselling, mentoring, teaching and pastoral roles. I have provided 1:1 and group therapy to young people and supervision and reflective practice to counsellors and pastoral staff in numerous schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Whilst working at Off the Record, I was instrumental in developing a School Counselling Service for secondary schools in South Gloucestershire.

Additionally, I have experience as a Counselling Trainer and have worked as a Tutor and Lecturer on the Foundation Degree in Counselling at City of Bristol College, in partnership with Gloucester University.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I work according to the ethics and standards of the BACP Ethical Framework. To keep up to date with best practice I receive monthly Clinical Supervision and attend regular professional development events.
